This week’s Point News broadcast features Anchors Melissa Garlock and Thomas Speranza. The broadcast begins with both local and national news. Garlock opens with a toss to a package from Reporter Issac Graves about the first-ever Pioneer Live event. Speranza then sends it to another package featuring the large turnout at Coachella, created by Reporter Ahri Riso. After the package, the anchors then discuss how Coachella has impacted them personally when they happen to view images and videos on social media.
The broadcast then shifts towards international headlines. Garlock sheds light on the United Kingdom’s King Charles and his now confirmed future visit to the United States which features a private meeting with President Donald Trump. Speranza moves on to talk about President Trump’s statement on how China will not support or provide Iran with weapons.
Garlock then broadens the topic and mentions the failure to find an agreement between the United States and Iran around the proposed “Red Lines.” The show then tosses to a break to switch gears in the next segment.
Coming back from the break, Anchor Melissa Garlock opens with sports-relevant news surrounding the 90th Annual Masters Tournament and Rory McIlroy’s back-to-back championship finish. Speranza changes gears by sending to Reporter Annabella Gizzi, who is live in-studio reporting on the Artemis II crew returning to Earth and what it means for NASA, paving the way to step foot on the moon again.
The broadcast then reverts to sports gear when Speranza tosses to Sports Anchor Fritz Reiter. Reiter’s talk about the NHL playoffs features the local team, the Pittsburgh Penguins, as well as other teams breaking playoff droughts and even Stanley Cup favorites.
Speranza shifts to the final segment of the night by sending the audience to Weather Anchor Robert Fornataro. Fornataro communicates what to prepare for on the current day and for the upcoming week. Garlock and Speranza close out the broadcast by thanking the viewers for watching and mentioning the Point News YouTube Channel.
This Point News broadcast marks the end of the semester and the conclusion for the near future. Viewers should look towards next semester for the continuation of the show.
